Task Templates: Create Recurring Tasks in One Click

Stop re-typing the same bug reports, feature requests, and spike descriptions. Define a template once and apply it anywhere in your project.

The recurring task problem

Every product team has task types they create over and over. Bug reports need reproduction steps, environment, severity, and expected vs actual behaviour. Feature requests need acceptance criteria and a link to the relevant PRD. Spikes need a timebox and a definition of done. Without templates, someone types all of this from scratch every time — or copies an old task and forgets to clear the old description. Task templates solve this by letting you define the blueprint once and apply it in a single click whenever you need it.

Where to find templates

Navigate to Integrations (the plug icon in the left sidebar) → Task Templates. Templates are per-project — each project has its own set.

What a template stores

A template captures everything that is the same every time you create that type of task. Everything can be edited after a task is created from the template — templates just remove the initial typing.

FieldDescription
TitlePre-filled task name — e.g. "[BUG] " to remind the team to complete it
DescriptionFull rich text pre-fill — include headings, reproduction steps, acceptance criteria, whatever your team needs
PriorityDefault priority level (Low, Medium, High, Critical)
Story pointsDefault point estimate for planning
Estimated hoursDefault effort estimate
TagsPre-applied tags — automatically categorise every task created from this template

Applying a template

Click the Apply button next to any template. Decuga creates a new task in the project backlog, pre-filled with the template's fields. The task is immediately editable — change the title, add an assignee, move it to a sprint, or adjust any field. A ✓ confirmation appears on the button when the task has been created.

  • Applied tasks land in the backlog — move them to a sprint from there
  • Applying a template does not consume or modify the template itself
  • You can apply the same template multiple times — each creates an independent task
  • The Apply button is available to all project members, not just managers

Tip: combine with task codes

Each applied task gets a unique task code (e.g. PROJ-42). If your team names templates with a prefix like "[BUG] " or "[SPIKE] ", the task code plus prefix makes every task instantly recognisable in the backlog, sprint board, and command palette search.

Managing templates

Use the edit (pencil) and delete (trash) icons that appear on hover over each template row. Only users with the Manage Project permission can create, edit, or delete templates — Project Owner, Product Manager, Product Owner, and Scrum Master. Any team member can apply a template.

Create

Click New Template, fill in the fields you want pre-populated, add tags with Enter, save. The template appears in the list immediately.

Edit

Hover a template row and click the pencil icon. All fields are editable. Existing tasks created from this template are not affected.

Delete

Hover and click the trash icon. A confirmation prompt prevents accidental deletion. Existing tasks are not affected.

Plan availability

Task templates are available on all paid plans — Starter, Pro, and Business. The feature is per-project and requires no configuration beyond creating the first template. Free plan accounts do not have access to the Integrations sub-tabs.

  • Starter plan ($14/month flat): Task Templates included
